The Ethnic Communities Council Newcastle and Hunter Region have been servicing the local area for almost 40 years. The organisation was initially established in 1977 as the umbrella body for ethnic communities in the Newcastle and Hunter Region. We have grown and we are now also a major provider of health, wellbeing and social programs to a broad cross-section of the Hunter Region Community. We have more than 70 community group members, a majority of which are representative of the established and emerging culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) communities in this region.
AGED CARE HEALTH & WELLNESS CENTRES
ECC manages 16 ethno-specific and multicultural Health and Wellness centres that operate on different days of the week between the hours of 9.00am to 2.00pm. The Health and Wellness centres operate across Newcastle, Lake Macquarie, Central Coast, Port Stephens and the Hunter Region and include:
Greek Holy Apostles
The Waratah Mayfield Multicultural Men’s Shed
The Waratah Mayfield Multicultural Men’s Shed (WMMMS) is a project of the Ethnic Communities Council of Newcastle and Hunter Region Inc. (ECCNHR). The Shed provides men with the opportunity to socialise with other men in a “backyard shed” environment. Men can also utilise their skills and work on projects to service the wider community.
Diversity Community Garden
Initiated from a grant by Multicultural NSW and ECC funds, the Diversity Community Garden is an opportunity for people of all ages and abilities to learn, grow, and share.
There are over 20 beds with a diverse range of herbs, fruit, vegetables, and flowers. We encourage people of all backgrounds to get involved and share the harvests.
